Tottenham v Rubin Kazan: Draw good value for Europa League tie

Posted 20th October 2011

Harry Redknapp's fondness for the Europa League is well documented so it is hard to know how strong of a team he will put out against Rubin Kazin on Thursday night. The Tottenham manager sees this competition as more of a burden than a reward and it would seem that he would like to be out of it sooner rather than later so his side could focus solely on the Premier League and getting back into the Champions League.

Rubin Kazan will arrive at White Hart Lane hoping they get a result against a weakened Spurs side and put themselves alone at the top of Group A. Both teams currently sit with four points from two games and are firm favourites to qualify for the knockout rounds.

Tottenham, 11/17 in the match odds for a win on Thursday night with Unibet, have drawn away to PAOK and beaten Shamrock Rovers 3-1 at home so far, while Rubin, priced at 4/1 for the win, have beaten Shamrock Rovers on the road and had a disappointing draw with PAOK in their last game.

Spurs' Premier League form of late has been good and after a slow start they have climbed up the table into sixth. Rubin are coming near the end of their season in Russia and sit in sixth with just four games to play. The club are just outside qualification for the Europa League places but they are finishing the season strong and have won their last two games.

With Spurs playing at home on Thursday night it would be tempting to back them but the draw at 13/5 with Unibet seems like a good wager. Redknapp has already put out reserve sides in the two games he has played in the competition and this shouldn't change for their next match-up. There might be some first-teamers scattered throughout the side but mostly it will be made up of squad players who haven't seen much football this season.

Rubin Kazan are an experienced side in European football these last few seasons and they will be confident of taking some points from North London on Thursday night. Their manager will field his strongest side and they should cause Spurs a few problems.

In other betting markets, back under 2.5 goals at 4/5 with Unibet as there shouldn't be too may goals in this one. Spurs will be resting their first-choice strikers but they should be strong enough at the back to not concede too many against the Russian side.

Tip #1: Back a draw at 13/5 with Unibet.

Tip #2: Back Under 2.5 goals at 4/5 with Unibet.
