Manchester City v Villarreal: City to hand Spanish side heavy defeat

Posted 17th October 2011

Manchester City host Villarreal at the Etihad Stadium in the Champions League on Tuesday night. City will be looking for the win and all three points to keep themselves in the qualification hunt from Group A. Roberto Mancini's side are currently third after just taking one point from two games and they will not want to lose any more ground on leaders Bayern Munich and second place Napoli.

Man City are firm favourites for Tuesday's tie and are priced at 1/3 with Unibet. Villarreal, who have won just two of their 11 games this season, are priced at 8/1 for the win and a draw is offered at 17/4.

Man City went top of the Premier League over the weekend after they beat Aston Villa 4-1 and Man United could only earn a draw at Liverpool. City's win was impressive as they handed Villa their first defeat of the season and did it without some of their biggest stars. Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko, David Silva and Samir Nasri were all left out of the side but City still got the job done in comfortable fashion. Mario Balotelli and Adam Johnson were good replacements in attack and both got on the scoresheet.

While their domestic campaign has been going smoothly, City have had a tough introduction to the Champions League so far. In their opening game they were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Napoli and then were totally outplayed by Bayern Munich in their 2-0 defeat in Germany. Roberto Mancini will be hoping his side can turn their fortunes around in the competition by picking up what should be a straight forward win on Tuesday. The rested players at the weekend are likely to come back into the side and City should be at full strength.

Up until a few seasons back, Villarreal were regarded as a force in European football but they have weakened considerably since that successful period. They currently sit 13th in La Liga and have lost both their matches in this season's Champions League. In their opening game they were very poor in their 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich before losing out 2-0 to Napoli in their most recent outing. The team has been dominated in both matches so far and they will likely suffer once again when they visit Eastlands.

City offer no value in the match odds so it is best to look to the correct score market. Villareal have yet to score in the Champions League and City should have no trouble in keeping a clean sheet. The Spanish side were beaten by two goals in both their group games so far but City can go one better with the firepower they have and score three.

Tip #1: Back Manchester City to win 3-0 at 17/2 with Unibet.
