Swansea v Stoke: Potters to lose once more after European tie
Posted 30th September 2011
Swansea City must be enjoying their time in the Premier League so far. They play a nice brand of neat football that is easy on the eye to watch, but they are also picking up points which are, ultimately, most important at the end of the day. They have taken five points from six games which isn't too bad considering that their three losses have come away to Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Swansea, 8/5 in the match odds with Unibet, host Stoke City in the Premier League on Sunday. The Potters, also 8/5 in the match odds, are coming off the back of an impressive 2-1 win over Besiktas in the Europa League. After going a goal down inside the first 15 minutes in Turkey, Stoke fought to get the win with goals from Peter Crouch and Jon Walters. It puts them top of their Group and gives them a great chance of qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition.
There is, however, a downside to competing in the Europa League for Stoke and it means after tricky ties in the competition they face tough away trips in the Premier League just a few days later. This was evident just a couple of weeks ago when after earning a terrific 1-1 draw away to Dynamo Kiev, Stoke had to play to Sunderland away on the Sunday and got thrashed 4-0. Manager Tony Pulis has complained about this but at the moment there is nothing he can do. Stoke's European encounter midweek now makes the trip to Wales to face Swansea a tough task.
Manager Brendan Rodgers will be hoping his team can capitalize on this and pick up all three points at the Liberty Stadium. Swansea have performed well at home this season and are yet to lose after picking up two draws and a win. Their most recent result was a dominant 3-0 win over West Brom.
In the betting for Sunday, with Stoke playing in Europa on Thursday night, you have to think Swansea will be much fresher and can take advantage of this and get the win. They are an attractive price in the match odds at 8/5 with Unibet. Also, there could be a few goals in this one. The last time Stoke played away from home after a Europa league game they were hammered 4-0 while Swansea netted three times in their last Premier League match. Over 2.5 goals at 6/5 looks like a must for this game.
Tip #1: Back Swansea to win at 8/5 with Unibet.
Tip #2: Back Over 2.5 goals at 6/5 with Unibet with Unibet.
